Nesting for Fall....

Pin It Now!
I had a super day at home today.
I puttered.
I played and had fun!
I tweaked the house for fall by changing some tablescapes.
My decorations are very simple.
I used items from around the house along with things that I have slowly collected over the years.
Nothing is the same from year to year.
Canadian Thanksgiving is one month from today!! {October 11}
So I am celebrating Fall & Thanksgiving.
{It is too early for Halloween for me. I don't decorate for Halloween until Thanksgiving is over.}
The tablescape below for the coffee table is my fav so far.
I started with the piano top.
I find the piano top the hardest to make look interesting without making it too 'granny'.
Does anyone else have this problem?
My piano is old....over 100 years old. It came with me from Nova Scotia.
I picked up the 'Give Thanks' blocks from the Real Canadian Superstore on sale last year for $2.94.
The black candle sticks and candles are also from Superstore.
The books are turned around so that the different colours of the book spines don't make it look 'busy'.
I put away the glass bottles on top of the martini bar and it went from this:
To this:
And I changed out the little table by the front door from this:
To this:
I am going to  'tweak'  this a bit. I think it needs something else.
And then I put the shells and candles on the tray on the coffee table away. It went from this:
To this arrangement of items. The apples are fresh. They smell wonderful!
Fall leaves tucked into a white pitcher.
The white pitcher was a previous 'makeover' project. You can read about it here.
The cozy corner in the living room went from this:
To this:

A  fall wreath went on the door of the pantry in the kitchen.
All small changes to reflect the season.
And then I used my new pictures to make a new fall banner for my blog!
Super fun day!
Finally,  I would like to share with you this very special homemade decoration.
It will stay the same from year to year.
Yes.
You see my son's name carved into the coffee table.
t.y.l.e.r.
The little stinker.
I told him that the next time he wants to carve something in this house... be smart about it and carve
h.u.n.t.e.r. {his sister's name.}
{There is a story here which I will share on another day. But it was so out of character for him to do something like this!}
We won't mention how this was the first new coffee table that I ever owned.
It was only a few months when this new decoration appeared.
But we will mention how this table is going with him to University some day.

Not ready for fall decor just yet but I am loving all your additions especially the wreath on your pantry door!

Nice changes, I love the white lattice lamps, beautiful! When my son was 2, he decided to naw on my MIL's coffee table, little teeth marks on one side. :)

I love your home Angie! It is so warm and beautiful. You are very creative with your vignettes. I laughed at the term "looking Granny!" very funny but the white lamps give it such a contemporary feel...great place for them.
I only have one fall arrangement...no wreaths got rid of everything when we moved sadly.

I could sit and visit in your home all day...it is so inviting and really reflects who you are.
Love the Tyler on the table!

I like your fall touches...so warm and cozy!

I have a vintage oak arts and crafts chair which has a tombstone carved on the arm which says R.I.P.
another "stinker" I suppose...it was on the chair when I purchased it at an antique shop for the pricely sum of $500..over 10 years sgo!
Your son may have increased the coffee tables' value!

All of your changes are so fitting! I think the piano top is decorated perfectly, and the lamps are so cool. My favorite is the martini bar decor... Well and Tyler's autograph of course lol. You've done well :-)

I love all of your changes - I've only done one thing so far. I know they are technically part of the fall decor, but I love the lamps on your buffet.

Lovely! I love everything you've done. Makin' me think it might be time to begin 'autumn-izing' around my place. Although, I have to say, its hard to get into the spirit of things when it is still 105 degrees outside. sigh. (This time of year I have to keep reminding myself how much I love AZ in January. LOL)

All your changes are wonderful. And you know, when Tyler goes to university you won't want to part with that table! I just sent my baby boy off to college two weeks ago, so I know of what I speak :) Linda

Looks great. Very Pottery Barn-ish. :) Really like the coffee table display/bowl. I cannot imagine what I would have done to my daughter had she carved her name in to my coffee table. Lord.have.mercy!!!

Your house is so cute! I love all of the fall additions. Very pretty! My son wrote his name on the outside of our house on the siding once. Then he tried to say he didn't do it. haha! Yeah, someone else wrote his name.

Hi! I just found your blog through DIY Showoff and I love it!!!! Your fall decor is gorgeous and everything looks so inviting. I have to say that your "before" picture of your martini bar gave me such a great idea for what to do with a space I have been stuck on! I'm usually very anxious to decorate inside too. I am loving your simple and elegant decor. Your home really looks beautiful. I'm going to look through your other posts as well.

Stumbled upon your blog from the link over at This Blessed Nest's Fall Festival - and so glad I did. I love your decorating style - so simple and elegant! And Tyler's name scratched on the coffee table - well, that brings back some memories of what my now-grown son did to a brand new upholstered chair when he was only 2 years old. So, I laughed when I saw that part of your post - and I realized how sorely I miss those days of young children wreaking havoc in the home! LOL. Great blog! I'm a fan!

Angie,
Very inspiring how you made sutle changes to welcome Fall!
I, too, have two red heads with freckles(now grown). . .so, I'll be waiting to hear "the rest of the story" on Tyler's engraving skills! Hubby & I loved hinting to engrave his sister's name! Keep your keen sense of humor.
Fondly,

Pretty vignettes. I wish I had the talent to stage and decorate like that, but I don't. I love the subtle changes.

I love your fall changes. All so simple and elegant. And, your suggestion to your kid is simply genius. I'm always telling my kids if they cleaned up their "messes" I'd never know they did anything wrong! Duh. I'd love it if you joined my Friday link party tomorrow! alittleknickknack.blogspot.com

Your little tablescapes have certainly made a big difference, how quick and easy to change the decor of your home to suit the seasons.

Cass @ That Old House said...

Wonderful table top displays! You have a good eye for design.

Awww... the scratched in name. That's when you don't know whether to hug your kid, or stick him in a corner to contemplate his wicked ways. My brother Lindy once wrote "KIRBY" in pen on a wall -- blamed Kirby, too, who was only 8 months old at the time!

Yeah, he didn't think that one thru.

As for sending it with him when he goes off to college, as the veteran of kids who've been to college I'd recommend waiting till he gets his post-grad apartment. A glass top table and undergrad? You are an optimist!

I also felt you might be a "kindred spirit" in that I have those same Pottery Barn books and now that I see what you have done, I plan to do something similar with them. LOVE your take on the little "Tyler" decoration!! So funny! I'm a new follower and off to check out some more of your posts!
